Love Lies Bleeding, 2021 - Olympia Antoniadis (she/her)
Oil on linen, 77 x 77 cm
What you see is the Love Lies Bleeding Flower, an incredible bloom with an enchanting name. I have created this piece as a homage to my period, a cyclical force. This flower was cathartic to work with, and I felt extremely connected to the process of creating this still life and its relationship to the grief I endured at this time.
Olympia is a Melbourne based artist with recent works focussing on her personal experience with life, death and the grieving process. Olympia uses flowers as symbols and metaphors to explore the traditional genre of ‘Memento Mori’ in a contemporary light.
