Why Choose Organic Pads and Tampons?

Why Choose Organic Pads and Tampons?

Wellness and clean eating currently have us all very concerned with what we put into our bodies. We are told that we do not ‘love ourselves’ if we choose the Macca’s drive through over an acai bowl and a run along the beach. Self-care is a trending topic but have we really thought carefully about everything that enters our bodies and how it affects the world around us.

Most of us, however, probably haven’t given enough thought to what the pads and tampons we use every month are made from. In particular, tampons are placed inside one of the most sensitive areas of the body. Pads are also being placed snugly against our delicate skin for extended periods of time.

The vagina is a delicate mucous membrane where chemicals can be more easily absorbed into the blood stream. Chemicals contained within synthetic tampons include polyethylene, polypropylene, rayon, bleach and cotton that is grown using pesticides. That doesn’t really sound like something you’d like to place inside your lady parts now, does it? A lot of these products also have a harmful effect on the environment as well, being made from synthetics that do not break down easily.

Both TABOO’S pads and tampons will be certified organic under GOTS (Global Organic Textile Standard) and made from 100% organic cotton. GOTS is the world’s leading processing standard for textiles made from organic fibres. This that means that our products have to meet strict environmental criteria right along the production chain. Our pads and tampons will also be made in Barcelona, Spain in a hydroelectric factory that uses the water of a nearby river to run. How cool is that! They have also been tested as hypoallergenic or ‘non irritant’ by external labs. That means no nasty rashes for sensitive skin types.

While no studies have yet been conducted, there have also been no reported cases of Toxic Shock Syndrome while using organic tampons thus far.

TABOO is so excited to bring you high quality pads and tampons that are both good for you and the environment. Not to mention the added global benefits of providing women in Developing Countries with access to sanitary products. Keep your eyes peeled in the coming months for the lead up to the launch of our little organic cotton friends.
